Every class in KPES has its own unique identity shaped by the facilitators, the children, and to some extent, the parents. Each group is given a name based on the elements – Water, Wind, Earth, Fire, and Ether – to help children of all ages form lasting connections with the philosophical, social, historical, poetic, and sometimes political interpretations of these elements. The goal is to help children develop a deeper relationship with the essential energies of nature. Through these connections, we hope that children will cultivate stronger ties with the environment and Mother Earth.
The vibrant ecology of the school campus encourages children, facilitators, and parents to engage with nature in various ways.
For each group, one or more themes are created around the group name. This thematic work allows children to sing songs, write poems, explore historical contexts, research both old and new ideas, craft stories, and delve into mathematics, science, and social studies – all within the framework of their group name. A child in Playgroup or Nursery will have the chance to experience each group name/element at least three times during their five years at KPES.
Parent involvement in education is a vital aspect of the school calendar. At KPES, this engagement starts the moment a parent seeks admission and continues in meaningful ways throughout each academic year for all classes.
For new parents, key experiences include reflecting on how KPES will nurture their child's development, understanding the school's philosophy and educational methods through tours and counseling sessions, and getting acquainted with the children expected to enroll. For parents whose children are already enrolled, the following activities promote involvement and participation:
• An Orientation Session for new parents before the school year begins
• Interactive Open-House events for each class held three times a year
• Parent-Facilitator Meetings twice a year to discuss and reflect on each child's progress
• Progress review meetings at the end of each semester for every child
• Parent-Teacher Association Meetings to discuss institutional progress, concerns, and suggestions
• Parent representation and involvement in the School Managing Committee
• Opportunities for parent volunteers to assist with field trips and school events like Hamara Manch and Hamara Mela
• Parent representatives leading talks and workshops for students in their areas of expertise
• Collaboration with school committees on matters such as transport management during arrival and departure, and recommendations for the safety and security of children
• Parent volunteers stepping in during teachers' extended absences
• Invitations for parents to participate in their child's birthday celebrations at school
Open-House interactions are organized for parents in each class three times a year. These sessions aim to strengthen the connection between home and school and allow parents to reflect on their evolving roles in parenting. Each session is structured to facilitate this engagement.
